When mortgage insurance comes off
On a conventional loan, mortgage insurance ends as the balance falls against the home's original value. Move through the years and watch it.
How this tool works
On a conventional loan you can ask to remove mortgage insurance when the balance reaches 80% of the original value, and it ends on its own at 78% if your payments are current. With a new appraisal, rising values can end it sooner. FHA mortgage insurance lasts the life of the loan with less than 10% down, or 11 years with 10% or more. VA loans have no monthly mortgage insurance.
