Which loans fit my score?
Choose your approximate credit score and see which loan types usually fit, and why.
How this tool works
Each light follows the program's own rule, not a lender's.
- FHA: scores from 500; 580 or higher for the lowest down payment, and 500 to 579 with 10% down. HUD Handbook 4000.1
- VA: VA sets no minimum credit score. Lenders can set their own, and they differ, which is where a Mortgage Broker who compares lenders helps. 38 CFR 36.4340
- USDA: USDA sets no minimum credit score. Its automated system weighs the whole file, and files it does not accept can be underwritten by hand. USDA HB-1-3555, Chapter 10
- Conventional: Fannie Mae removed the fixed minimum score for its automated approvals in November 2025. Lenders can set their own minimums, and pricing improves as scores rise. Selling Guide update, November 2025
These are the programs' rules, not approvals: income, debts, savings and the home also matter.
